Anzac Studies - Dawn Parade

We have been looking at WW1 and the ANZACs. This of course is to do with the centennial ANZAC commemoration that was held on Saturday. We were lucky enough to have Luke come in. He told us about what his work as a builder / engineer in the Army. It was interesting that his focus is on helping to rebuild communities. Room 12 decided to take this a step further...

We went to the Dawn Parade! Most of us got up anywhere in between 3:00-3:30am because the train that left at 4:05 from Johnsonville station.  As we entered the dawn parade we found a reasonably good spot to observe from. It would have been good to get closer, but with over 40,000 people there it was always going to be a challenge.

We think that this was an experience that we will never forget. To our understanding, we are one of very few classes in NZ to have done this and we have created a memory that we will never forget.

May the force be with you...

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.....We have started Physics 101. Let's just hope the force is with us! To get our brains thinking, We did things such as create a human table (photo below) where we lay down on top of each other to form this....
Then we took the chairs away! We worked out how to do this successfully by taking away the chairs from the person's lowest body mass to the person who had the most body mass.

We also did things such as...
  • Underlying knowledge about centripetal force by trying to keep the water in the cup while spinning it round.
  • Finding the perfect arm wrestling buddy.
  • Exploring unbalanced and balanced forces by playing tug of war
Physics is our inquiry this term - let's see where this takes us...
